How negative people can RUIN your well-being (especially friends & family)

I remember reading a quote from Jim Rohn that when it comes to your health, your finances and your well being that you’re the sum total of the 5 people you hang out with the most.

And there’s a lot of truth to that.

Case in point…

Last year, one of Karen’s long time gal pals basically became insufferable to be around.

She was always in a bad mood, she was negative to Karen, and just generally not fun to be with.

This always left Karen stressed and in a bad mood.

And this wasn’t a one time thing.

It started as a small thing, but over the course of a year, it got worse and worse.

Karen and I had a few talks about.  She was really struggling with the idea of how to handle this.  After all, this was one of her oldest friends.

So she tried to talk to this friend, and see if there was something that was causing this but she couldn’t put her finger on anything.

Over the course of the year, Karen finally hit her “breaking point” and started distancing herself from this woman.

She really had no choice.

And guess what?

Karen was immediately less stressed, and in a better mood after she did that.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but this woman’s stress and bad vibes were having a bigger effect on Karen and I than I thought.

Now, here’s my point…

Cutting someone out of your life that is NOT contributing to yor happiness is not easy.

Especially if they’re a close friend or family member.

But here’s the deal…

If that person is not willing to change, and they’re negatively affecting your life, or just generally not contributing to your happiness, then you have every right to distance yourself from them.

Because in the end, your health and your well-being should always come first.

We only have a limited amount of time on this earth, why spend it with someone who doesn’t make you happy?

Why waste it with someone that has no intention of changing?

That time could be better spent with your family, or doing something you enjoy like playing golf.

Negative people shouldn’t be a priority in your life.

Alright, that’s all from me for today.  Enjoy this beautiful Thursday…

God bless,
