Jeff’s Sunday Morning Thoughts (Feb 28th Edition)

When did we become so soft as a nation?

That’s the thought that has been on my mind for the past week or so…

With everything that’s going on in America today, it really makes me wonder when it all went wrong.

I remember when I was growing up, I was about 13 or so, and we just had a really tough year on our farm…

We sold about 40% less of our meat & dairy than usual.  This put us in dire straights financially.

I remember my dear mother bringing up the idea of asking some of our neighbors and family for help at the time.

But my dad wouldn’t have any of it.

He couldn’t believe my mother would even think of such a thing.

My dad believed “this is our responsibility, we’ll find a way to get through this”.

And we did.

We all wound up getting extra part-time jobs and dad wound up putting in more hours than ever working with local restaurants to sell some of our meat and dairy products to.

It wasn’t fun by any means…

And it was stressful on the family…

But we got through it.

I often wonder if this “solution” would even cross some people’s minds today if they were in the same situation.

Or would they immediately be running to their parents or the government looking for a handout?

Again, that just makes me wonder, where did it all go wrong?

How did a country that was built on hard work and personal responsibility drift so far?

When are people going to wake up and realize that nothing is owed to them?

…That they have to earn whatever they get.

These are the kinds of values that are sorely lacking today.

And I hope we start to see them come back in style.

That’s all from me for today.

Enjoy your Sunday.

God bless,
