Prostate cancer

When I’m reading over studies, I like to see “gold standard” before I start recommending stuff.

I’m talking about human studies.

Double-blind (the doctors and the patients don’t know who gets what).

And placebo controlled.

But I’m not always a stickler about this.

Especially when something shows promise. It’s readily available. And it has other benefits too.

These things fall into the “couldn’t hurt” category.

If you’re dealing with a health issue, or you’re worried you might be, wouldn’t you want to know if something harmless could actually be of benefit?

I thought so. Then off we go…

Researchers right down the road from me at UT Austin just published a summary of their findings when it comes to shrinking prostate cancer tumors.

They looked at over 140 different natural compounds and how they impact cells. The search was on for the best cancer fighters – either alone or in combination…

What they found was a top 3: ursolic acid (found in apple peels and rosemary), curcumin (found in the spice turmeric) and resveratrol (red grapes and berries).

If I was fighting prostate cancer, or I had a family history of it, I would up my intake of these foods for sure.

The interesting thing is how some of these plant chemicals work together. When you combine the apple peel compound with either curcumin or resveratrol, it stops cancer cells from absorbing glutamine.

That keeps the cancer from growing. And all it took was nutrients easily added to your diet.

Now, is this THE definitive study? Will oncologists be shouting this from the rooftops?

Doubt it.

But apples, turmeric and resveratrol have so many other benefits, I’d recommend them anyway.

This is just another reason to enjoy them.
