I was in line at the grocery store yesterday and I overheard a conversation between the checkout lady and the customer in front of me.
It went a little something like this:
Checkout lady: “Wow, you sure are healthy.”
Customer: “If you don’t have your health, nothing else matters.”
Now, my first instinct was to agree completely. Being healthy does make life much, much easier.
Less expensive. With less pain. And more enjoyment…
But does that mean you can’t live a life with fulfillment and fun, and stay incredibly productive if you’re not perfectly healthy?
Of course not.
Sure, a lot of what “happens to us” to wreck our health is actually something we did to ourselves. Digging an early grave with a knife and fork…
But sometimes you get dealt a bad hand. Does that mean giving up, and not living your life to the fullest you can?
Don’t be ridiculous. If you’re dealing with an ongoing condition, there’s no reason you can’t still have a rich, full life… and enjoy every second you can.
Because even though leading a healthful life can deliver incredible benefits – and the power of food and nutrition can be a real solid part of that – it’s not a cure all for everything.
Sometimes, no matter what we do, no matter how many doctors we see or how hard we work or what we eat or drink… we may never be 100%, tip-top healthy.
And that’s ok. Living a life of purpose, of faith, and of impact doesn’t require perfection.
It just needs you to want it.
Something to think about…
