Why Dave Ramsey says “normal ain’t right” (and why I agree with him)

This newsletter was one of my most highly read this year, so I’m sharing it with you again today…

There’s gold in here…
——–

I have my daughter going through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace course right now…

If you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically Dave’s no-frills money management course.

It teaches you how to make a budget, how to get out of debt and how to get on the right track with money.

I’m not sure why this isn’t a mandatory class in high schools throughout the U.S.

It’s certainly more important than 95% of what they’re learning right now.

Anyways, before I go on a rant…

I want to talk about something I noticed in Dave’s course that really applies to your health as well.

If you’ve ever listened to his radio show you’ll be familiar with this…

He has a famous line that he uses over and over again.

It usually comes from a caller who’s uncomfortable with doing something that all of their friends are NOT doing…

Dave will show them how to set a budget, how to save money and how to pay down their debts…

And someone that’s uncomfortable with the idea of changing their habits will usually respond “this isn’t normal”

And Dave will come back and say “That’s right. It’s not normal. Because normal is broke!”

He’s absolutely right.

I see the same thing when I write newsletters and read the replies in my inbox.

I had a reader email me the other day and tell me that she was catching flak from co-workers for what she was eating at lunch…

I was curious, so I asked her “well what are you eating?”

She replied “I brought in my own salad, with a home-made dressing I made.  Not only am I trying to eat healthier, but I want to save myself some money instead of eating out everyday”.

Think about that for a second.

She’s getting nagged by co-workers because shebrought something healthy to eat for lunch.

If she would have brought in a Big Mac, large fry and a 44 oz. Coke nobody would have batted an eye.

Does that sound “normal” to you?

Just goes to show you that what’s “normal” is completely broken.

And that’s what I want you to remember…

If you’re doing something to improve your health that’s “not normal” compared to the rest of the population, you’re probably on the right track.

Because “normal” is broken.

Enjoy your Monday!

God bless,
